1914, a Marked Year

“END of all kingdoms in 1914!” Such was the arresting headline of an article published on Jehovah’s witnesses in a secular magazine called the “New World Magazine” in its issue of August 30, 1914. An extract of the article continues. “The terrific war outbreak in Europe has fulfilled an extraordinary prophecy. ‘Look out for 1914’ has been the cry of the hundreds of traveling evangelists who, representing this strange creed, have gone up and down the country enunciating the doctrine that the ‘Kingdom of God is at hand’.
World events from and after 1914, beginning with the first World War, fulfill the prophecies concerning the end of this world and thereby disclose themselves as the visible sign of the establishment of Jehovah’s kingdom by his Christ in that notable year. All this means that divine sovereignty as it was once exercised by God over the earth was due to be restored in fact in the year 1914. As foretold, momentous events did happen at that time and things continue to occur which greatly affect the destiny of all kinds of men on earth today.
And even if very less people take a note of that strange message, the year 1914 was really a crucial year! It was the year of radical changes both in heaven and the earth. Writers, sociologists and scientists admitted that never was a year like 1914.
A famed scientist, one of the creators of the atom bomb, in 1951 said: ‘‘We have not had a peaceful world since 1914.” An associate professor of history at Columbia University wrote: “It is indeed the year 1914 rather than that of Hiroshima which marks the turning point in our time, for by now we can see that, whatever the future may hold in store, it was the first world war that ushered in the era of confused transition in the midst of which we are floundering.” This view was taken by another leading journalist in making a comparison of the two world wars: “The first war marked a far greater change in history. It closed a long era of general peace and began a new age of violence in which the second war is simply an episode. Since 1914 the world has had a new character: a character of international anarchy…Thus the first World War niarlts a turning point in modern history.” Another competent observer said: “Forty years ago the world overnight goose-stepped from the ‘golden age’ into a the volcanic epoch marked by bloody wars.” And the noted British author, Bertrand Russell, remarked: “Ever since 1914 the world has been reeling drunkenly toward disaster.”
Even if the majority don’t want to admit that the events regarding to that year were foretold thousands of years ago in God’s Word, the reality demonstrate these things. To deny the change is to ignore the facts.

    Why 1914?

In the fall of 1914 for Jehovah the Universal Sovereign himself to act! Action on a global scale, yes, on a universal scale, was due to take place. The waiting period was over, and now the desire of all righteous ones came. Christ Jesus, the proved and tested new world’s King, was enthroned and empowered with sovereignty from on high. At last the kingdom of heaven was established in the person of its anointed ruler, Christ the King. Now for the first time in nearly six thousand years there is in existence, as respects the entire earth, a new theocratic government with ruling right from God the true Sovereign. The Bible gives us a glimpse of the glorious enthronement proceedings which occurred in 1914. “I saw in the night-visions, and, behold, there came with the clouds of heaven one like unto a son of man [Christ Jesus], and he came even to the ancient of days [Jehovah God], and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.” (Daniel 7:13,14) Thus about October 1, 1914, divine sovereignty empowered a theocratic government to take over the control of the entire earth. The “lowest of mankind”, Christ Jesus, was now exalted with kingdom right forever. What joy there was in heaven! “And loud voices occurred in heaven saying: ‘The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will rule as king for ever and ever.’”- Revelation 11:15.
What physical evidences are there, then, that indicate 1914 was a marked year as to the ending of the “appointed times” of the nations as Bible said too? (Luke 21:24). Related to these things, the disciples asked Jesus: “Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the consummation of the system of things?” (Matthew 24:3).
In Jesus’ answer to this question he described many things that would occur in the earth as supporting proof that the Kingdom’s establishment was an accomplished fact. These things must occur within the one brief period known as the “consummation of the system of things”. At no time in previous history have all these things occurred at once to comprise a composite sign as has been the case since 1914.
Let’s consider the following enumeration of some of the predicted things by Jesus Christ in His answer to disciples’s question of which there is an abundance of physical facts in support. In Matthew chapter 24 we can find these proofs and visible signs that will show the presence of Jesus Christ and so we can locate them very easily in time.

    “Wars and rumors of wars”
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that ye be not troubled: for these things must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;” – Matthew 24:6,7
All began in the summer of 1914. The first war suddenly began and the events rolled on in a very short time. Austria declared war on Serbia July 28, 1914. Germany declared war against Russia August 1; against France August 3. Germans enter Belgium, in violation of treaty, guaranteed by Britain. Britain asked Germany to guarantee neutrality of Belgium by midnight August 4; Germany refused. Britain declared war August 4. Turkey, Bulgaria, Rumania joined Central Powers. Japan declared war on Germany, August 23, 1914. Truly the Gentile world went crazy between July 28 and August 4 in launching the bloodiest war in earth’s history to that time. Just as the Scriptures foretold, “nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom.”- Matthew 24:7.

    Natural disasters, famines, diseases
„and there shall be famines and earthquakes in divers places” - Matei 24:67
On August 15, 1950, the severest earthquake of the twentieth century, the “biggest of the present generation”, the “most drastic natural upheaval in a populated place that the world ever has known”, was centered in northeastern India, Assam, Nepal and southern Tibet. So violent was that quake that some of the rivers of the region disappeared and others changed their courses. Brahmaputra’s tributary, the Subansiri, spread ruin through 1,500 villages. Whole mountains tumbled down, burying villages.
But before 1914 there were no earthquakes?
Of course they were, but the statistics show that annual mortality rate was accelerated after 1914. Science does observe a strange change in the behavior of earthquakes since World War I. Says the magazine Scientific American, September 1950: “Major quakes used to occur in clusters, each period of activity being followed by a rest period. But the periods of activity became progressively shorter and closer together. Since 1948 the pattern has entered a new phase, with approximately one great quake a year.”. It is a warning that we are in the “last days”. A Hiroshima-type atom bomb is equivalent to 20,000 tons of TNT. The Assam quake last summer equaled the power of 1,100,000 atom bombs. It was felt within a radius of 11,000 square kilometers and the replicas took nearly a month.
After first World War there were long periods of famine and deadly diseases. Only the Spanish flu between 1918-1920 caused the death to more than 80 milion people.

There are more other events that Jesus Christ remembered, events that will be evidences of His presence as King from 1914 and in the same time will be signs of “the end of this world”:
Persecution of Christians – “Then shall they deliver you up unto tribulation, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all the nations for my name's sake.” – Matthew 24:9
Many false Christian religions – “For many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and shall lead many astray.” – Matthew 24:5
World-wide preaching of the Kingdom good news – “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a testimony unto all the nations; and then shall the end come.” – Matthew 24:14
Formation of the League of Nations and the United Nations – “When therefore ye see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let him that readeth understand),” – Matthew 24:15. The League of Nations has born in 1919 and thereafter in 1945 it received a new name: “the United Nations”. About this organization the Bible said in Revelation 17:11 - “And the beast that was, and is not, is himself also an eighth, and is of the seven; and he goeth into perdition.”.
Juvenile delinquency in growing – “But know this, that in the last days grievous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” – 2 Timothy 3:1-4
A state of general indifference regarding God's Word – “For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and they knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall be the coming of the Son of man.” – Matthew 24:38,39
The Judgement of Jesus Christ by separating people into sheep and goats - ” But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory: and before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats; and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.” - Mattew 25:31-33
The emergence of the eveil servant (or man of sin) and the wise and faithful servant – “Therefore be ye also ready; for in an hour that ye think not the Son of man cometh. Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath set over his household, to give them their food in due season?” – Matthew 24:45,46
No one can deny that 1914 ushered in a dreadful and crucial period and one which continues to the present. Global wars more ghastly in their magnitude and consequence than all the previous wars of history put together! Unsurpassed food shortages! Pestilences and diseases that even modern medicine cannot cope with! World-wide moral and social delinquency, and on every hand, on every level of society, in every nation, fear, distress and perplexity fill the minds and hearts of the people with woe and sorrow! Lumped together, Jesus declared, they would constitute an undeniable sign.

But how can we prove with the Bible that 1914 is the year of establishing Kingdom in Heavens and the year of Jesus Christ presence as King?
Let’s consider again the words of Jesus as a continuation of His answer to the disciples, but this time the answer from Luke 21:24: “Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”. Which is the period of time where we can situate these “Gentile times” about Jesus talk?
Let’s back to Bible history. As a redeemer in 1513 B.C. Jehovah purchased Israel as his people, delivered them out of Egypt and organized them under a typical theocratic government which he empowered from his sovereignty, and he also became their invisible ruler. He brought his people into the Promised Land to possess it in the year 1473 B.C.
The condition for He to be their Leader and they to be His people, in order to inherit the land given to them, was their faithful towards the Covenant made with them. But in time, the majority of the people of Israel and Judah, alike their kings, have denied Jehovah as their Sovereign and instead of, they have chosen to follow their rebel ways like the people from neighborhood, of the World’s Nations of Satan which have had acted this way for centuries. Then, Jehovah God disapproved this typical Theocratic government and He has ended His typical sovereign control for a while, letting Jerusalem to be under the domination of the Gentiles people.
The last unfaithful King, Zedekiah, was stripped from Judah’s throne in 607 b.C. In that time Jehovah declared in Ezechiel 21:25-27: “And you, you knave, O prince of Israel to be slain, for whom the hour of sin’s full punishment brings doom—‘Off with his diadem, away with his crown!’ says the Lord the Eternal [Jehovah, AS]; ‘turn things upside down, up with the low, down with the high! I lay all in ruins, ruins, ruins; everything shall be overturned, till the rightful man arrives—and I will give him everything.’”. And another Bible translation record: “Remove the mitre, and take off the crown; this shall be no more the same; exalt that which is low, and abase that which is high. I will overturn, overturn, overturn it: this also shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.”
This year is the same with the time when Jerusalem was completely destroyed by the babilonians forces of Nebuchadnezzar. We know that is about 607 b.C., because the prophecy of “70 years of desolation of Jerusalem” started in this year and fulfill in 537 b.C. The year 537 b.C. is a general and accepted year by all historics that be the year when Cirus have decreeted the returning of Jews and rebuilding the Temple from Jerusalem.
From the prophecy of “7 times” from Daniel chapter 4 we can conclude that the end of “the times of Gentiles” will be after “7 times” beginning with 607 b.C. We don’t insist on this prophecy but only to the mathematical calculation in order to determine this period of time.
For this calculation we will surely go to the Bible. In Revelation 12:6 we can find the key: “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that there they may nourish her a thousand two hundred and threescore days.”. We can find the same ideea in verse 14 of the same chapter, but in this case it is recorded in another way: “And there were given to the woman the two wings of the great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness unto her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.”. This final verse concludes that the period of “3 times and a half” means 1260 days. Then “7 times” are 2520 days.
Now we will follow the Divine rule from Numbers 14:34 when Jehovah damned the nation to 40 years of wandering in the wilderness with no sovereign control of land – “After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my alienation”.
    If we apply this calculation from year 607 b.C., we find that 2520 years are ending in 1914 A.D. Then, from 607 b.C. till 1 A.D. are 606 years. From 1 A.D. till 1914 A.D. are 1914 years. So 606 + 1914 = 2520.
While the earth is filled full of woes on a scale such as never before experienced by man, deliverance draws near for those honest-hearted ones who are sighing and crying over all the abominations that are done in the earth. To those of us passing through these dire times since the marked year 1914 Jesus said: “But as these things start to occur, raise yourselves erect and lift your heads up, because your deliverance is getting near.” - Luke 21:28.
